Airdrops
What Are Airdrops?
Airdrops are passive reward campaigns. Unlike deal clips, which require a member to actively save a deal before earning a reward, airdrops work entirely in the background. When a member makes a qualifying purchase, cashback is triggered automatically without them needing to have seen or interacted with any deal beforehand.
Airdrops are designed to surprise members - an unexpected reward that appears after a purchase, creating a positive incentive and driving engagement.
How It Works
Campaign Configuration
Airdrop campaigns are configured by advertisers on the K42 Platform. The Publisher software automatically determines which members are eligible for active airdrops and attaches the relevant references when publishing transactions. Key properties include:
- Target brand and items - which brand and optionally which specific items qualify
- Reward - percentage or fixed amount, delivered as cashback
- Audience targeting - which members are eligible
- Campaign duration - how long the airdrop is active
- Budget / capacity - maximum total rewards to distribute
The publisher does not need to configure or manage airdrop campaigns. Eligibility is determined automatically by the Publisher software based on synced campaign rules.
User Experience
From the end-user's perspective:
No prior action required - The member does not need to browse offers, save deals, or opt in. They simply use their card as normal.
Surprise reward - After making a qualifying purchase, the member receives a push notification or email informing them they've earned an unexpected cashback reward.
Creative details - The member can tap through on the notification to see details about the reward - the airdrop creative content explains what they earned and why (e.g. "You earned 5% back at Coffee Shop").
Publisher Responsibilities
As a publisher, your role in the airdrops product is lighter than with deal clips since there's no discovery or activation UX:
- Ingest transactions - Feed card transaction data into the Publisher software. This is the same transaction ingestion used for deal clips - no additional integration is needed.
- Handle reward webhooks - When an airdrop cashback is triggered, the Platform delivers a webhook event with a source of
"airdrop". Use this to notify the member. - Send notifications - Push notifications or emails are the primary way members learn about airdrop rewards. Design the notification content and link it to a detail view.
- Render airdrop creatives - When a member taps through on a notification, display the airdrop creative content (reward details, merchant info, imagery).
No changes to your offers screen or deal delivery flow are required for airdrops - they operate entirely through the transaction ingestion and webhook pipeline.
